The greatest civilizations were created besides a river: for example: the Egyptians on the Nile, Babylon, Elam, Ur, etc. between the Euphrates and Tigris (today in Irak), India on the Ganges, the chinese on the Yang Tse Kiang. 
The comparison will take many examples: the use of the river for carrying goods and merchandise, to conquer neighbors, ways of life, and the asequibility to materials to build and develop a particular architecture.
So I will suggest you to look in Google &quot;Civilizations&quot;, &quot;Ancient ages&quot; and similar wording.
